Is Big Walk Crossplay?

Last checked: August 9, 2026 (US region)

Yes — Big Walk supports crossplay. Players on Steam (Windows and Mac), the Mac App Store, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 can all play together online. Cross-platform friends join the host's session with a Join Code; players on the same platform service can also join through the friend list.

How to join a cross-platform game

Option 1: platform friend list

If you and the host are friends on the same platform service, the host's running session should appear in the game's active friend games menu. This works well for same-platform friends. The Mac App Store version is the exception: it has no Game Center friend-room list, so Mac App Store players always need a Join Code.

Option 2: Join Code (works across platforms)

Every time a host starts a session, the game generates a short, unique Join Code. The host sends that code to the group, and players on any platform can use it to join:

Streaming? The official FAQ warns hosts not to show their Join Code or password on stream, because anyone who sees it can try to join the session.

Do all players need the same game version?

Mostly, yes. Big Walk version numbers have three parts (for example, 1.2.3). According to the official FAQ, the first two numbers must match for players to connect; a difference in the third number usually does not block a session.

If a friend cannot join, check in this order: that both games show the same first two version numbers, that both connections are stable, and that each device's system clock is set correctly.

Who keeps the save — and is there cross-save?

The host owns the world save and all progress in it. Other players can only connect while the host's session is running, and everyone disconnects when the host ends it. To continue the same adventure, the same host starts a new session and the group rejoins.

The developers do not describe this as cross-save or cross-progression. What crossplay gives you is access to a friend's hosted world from any platform — not a personal save that follows your account between devices. We will not claim otherwise until the developers confirm it.

Crossplay is not matchmaking

Big Walk has no online matchmaking. It is designed for one group of friends playing across multiple sessions, not for automatically pairing you with strangers. In practice:
